We can always expect Kurt's Bistro to satisfy our German food cravings.

We tend to go here at least 1-2 times a year. I went to the previous location which was more of a biergarten style but really like the smaller and more upscale bistro with outside biergarten seating during the warmer months. Our latest visit had a newer menu this time around but all the essential items that we loved were still available. Still around were Elly's favorite, the Tuscan vegetarian pasta and charcuterie board, and my favorites...anything meat and sausage. :-) The large bread roll that comes with the meal is always something we look forward to. It does look like one of meat fav is also available all the time now, the Pork Shank (Schweinhaxe). It may still be limited to a certain quantity per day and may be sold out of you come late.

Below is our latest smorgasbord at Kurt's. As always, captions will give you our take on the dishes. Let us know what you think or if you have any questions. Cheers!

Charcuterie board – always a great sampler of what’s available at the time. Definitely ask for the mustard. They don’t give you a lot of bread on the board but you have the dinner roll to make up for it. The pickled veggies are always a great touch and a must to accompany the meats.

Appetizers – softshell crab is a special item on the menu, had to try it. Honestly not worth it. We haven’t had Jonas Crab since several years ago in Savannah, therefore had to get it too. Not as great as we remembered only because it was cold, but if in Savannah, will always get this item.

Jaeger Schnitzel – Elly normally always gets the veggie pasta but switched it up this time with traditional schnitzel. This version has a mushroom sauce on top that wasn’t overly salty and added some needed flavor to a light batter from the schnitzel and all on top of a nice bed of spaetzle.

Choucroute Platter – has all the meats that I was craving for. Can’t go wrong with bratwurst, super thick smoked bacon and smoked pork chop with sauerkraut and golden potatoes. I always feel like you need that sweet and sourness of the sauerkraut to cut through all the fattiness from the meats. Suprising is the sweetness of the golden potatoes.

Double Smoked Bacon - Look at that tick fatty goodness! That's Elly's nickname for me. HAHAHA!

Beets – one of the special items not on menu. The beets weren’t overly sour like we expected and the cheese added a nice creaminess to it. Entire dish had a nice drizzle of oil that brought everything together.
